Gillingham FC have rejected a £2,500 donation from the GISC
which was raised to fund the installation of commentary system
for blind and visually impaired persons inside Priestfield.
Although the project has gone ahead with funding from KRBS
and Gillingham FC, the money raised by the Gills Independent
Supporters Club at the Legends Night
was declined. In an email to GISC Honorary Secretary Neil Klee,
Gillingham FC Secretary Gwen Poynter said:
"Mark (Jones - GFC Chief Exec) has asked me to
reply to your email. The system for the visually
impaired supporters is being funded in part by krbs
due to a fundraising activity they organized and
we, Gillingham FC, needed to match the amount raised
by them for the system to be purchased. We are now
able to order the system and therefore we will not
need a donation from the GISC as we have sufficient
funding for the equipment. We would, however, take
this opportunity to thank you for your offer.
Kind regards.

Despite the reply the GISC Executive Committee have made it
clear that although disappointed, they would be willing to meet
with the club in order to discuss future ways of helping and
move the relationship between the two parties forward. The reply
said:
| Thank you very much for your reply to my e-mail.
I must say that I (and our committee) am deeply
disappointed that Gillingham FC have decided not to
accept the monies that we raised specifically for
this project.
This was an opportunity to build trust and
respect between GISC and the football club, with a
genuine prospect of further co-operation between us.
With the club now in League 2 surely it is important
that the club and its supporters are united and
working together for the common good?
With this in mind several of our committee would be
happy to meet with you to discuss future ways
forward if you were willing.
Regards, Neil |
