17/05/2008 - Carly and Thomas Sykes thank GISC members

Syko Challenge Link IconMany football fans will remember the unfortunate events of Tuesday 12th April 2005 when former Gills player Paul Sykes suddenly died whilst playing for Folkestone against Margate.

In memory of Paul a "all star" match took place at Sunday 30th April at Hartsdown Park, Margate. The match saw players, officials and fans from the many clubs that Paul Sykes had been associated with turned up in force at Hartsdown Park.

Mike Green and Steve Wells, who had spent months planning the football extravaganza, were overwhelmed by the genorosity shown by the football fraternity from Kent.

Carly Sykes and son Thomas overwhelmed by the support

In order to support the day the GISC donated £50 towards the event and an overwhelmed Carly Sykes, the widow of Paul, has thanked members of the GISC for the donation.

In a thank you card Carly says:

To all at Gillingham Supporters Club,

I just wanted to send a note to say a huge thank you for your generous donation following the Syko Chellange.

I continued to be overwhelmed with the fantastic support that Thomas and I receive from the football community and to know that Paul was through of so fondly is a great comfort.

Thank you doesn't seem to say enough but we are both extremely grateful.

With love,

Carly and Thomas Sykes x
